Map decompression is now 100% working as far as I can tell. There were a few stray cases I wasn't covering that were causing some maps to not look right. It was my second or third "Why the fuck would they code it this way?" moment so far. More to come, I'm sure.
I've also been changing how I read in background tiles. Some tiles that didn't show up at all on maps before now show up. There are issues with the palettes that still need to be worked out. Also, there are some flags on the "composite maps" that are not being interpreted correctly yet.. these determine the rendering order of the BG layers, transparency settings, layer movement effects, etc.
Bottom line: Maps still have issues, but they're being worked on.

Great!
But... Is the release date anytime soon?
Nice work. Did you get my E-Mails? I'm a German .Net consultant and I could help you with the developement.
Great!!
I'm french and I want to help you. If you want to translate the editor into French I'm your guy.
So, once maps are working, will we see the release you mentioned in the last update?
The first release will likely have maps and events/dialogue. It will be released when it's ready (when I'm convinced everything works well enough). Events are mostly working, but there are holes, like with maps.
I plan to have at least a French and German translation, since there seems to be interest. However, I don't speak more than a few words of either, so if you want, I will have you guys put together a decent translation (ie, better than I could whip up with babelfish or something) once I have all the English messages together.
Awesome!
Thank you for following up, MOP. It's always refreshing to see comments back from the programmer as it tends to keep people more interested. Also, thumbs up on the translations! I'm a native English speaker, but a lot of hacking utilities lack in the translation area, forcing non-English speakers to fend for themselves. The more people hacking, the better.
WOW! I stumbled across this project by reading the http://twitter.com/BroadOn
Nice one. Keep it up!
Nice work and i'm happy to have news about you and your work
I can't wait for this thing to come out, please, take your time and make it how you need it to be released.
+1 for French translation !! I have a very good orthography, so don't hesitate !!
Ok cool! Let me know when you're ready.
I'm in for the german translation! Man, how long am I following this blog now...cantwaitcantwaitcantwait
Great job!
Can't wait for this to be released.
Already got a lot of thinks in my mind for a hack.
Hi Mop,
im absolutely amazed about your project.
Will it be possible in the final version to create SOM-style games from scratch? Im asking this because I've been in search for comparable multiplayer rpgs for quite a time and there seems to be nothing out there except seiken 3 and secret of evermore with fusoyas two player hack.
What I would really like to see is something like a fake-manual for the final editor just telling us what you are planing it to be capable of. I know this will raise the pressure on you but I think people will be much more able to give you creative input to make it a neat final product.
I for my part can wait, and I will. I really prefer to be patient and get a solid tool then the other way around.
Greetings from Germany
Roi
Just stumbled across your project.
Looking forward to see it finished! =)
I hate to do this, but we need some news, dude. If you want all of these people to stay interested, you need to create a buzz.
Where are you at mop? It's been months since last update. Is somedit dead?
I can't wait to mess around with this thing Mop. Even an unfinished Demo would likely be amazing
Yo! Where you at? It's not right to keep us uninformed for so long.
Let's kill some time commenting about the iPhone remake and the possibility to port the shine new graphics to our old rom.
I'm killing time playing with my rooted, overclocked, blazing fast Motorola XOOM. What's an 'iPhone'? ;)
MOP, I'd love to see some news!
@Kyle
Nice!
I'm saving for an Atrix, a NGP and 3DS. A very 'expensive' year that 2011...
Just a quick note: you should be discrete about this project because Square doesn't like its properties to be hijacked (see what happened to "Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes": http://crimsonechoes.com/letter.pdf)
November 22, 2010 ?!?
what's up!?
is the project DEATH???
what fuck men ?
when you gone release
is-that project a fake ? your last comment is been 1 year ago
at least you can post a brief comment to put us on hold, or what something like that. I began to despair
I have a small question, what programming language are you writing it with?
I can't wait to see a release!
Why don't you release the project as open source if you're not going to work on it anymore? I'm sure the community would appreciate it a lot.
MOOOP! Come back!
I'd love to use something like this. All I want though is the ability to change existing text. Hope this works out.
Who wants to throw a birthday party for this post in November?
