Release Plans

Okay, so here's the deal. I've changed the way ROM file handling works - when you load a ROM now, it creates a project file that stores the original file plus all the shit you modified. You can then export these into a new ROM whenever you want, or just keep them around in the project file package.

I've been working on the project file handling lately.. the nice thing about it is I can read and write in whatever format I want, so the development goes a little faster. The current plan is to have an initial release that allows various things to be edited and saved to the project, but not exported to the ROM yet. As I finish up some ROM write routines, I'll release revisions that allow certain pieces of project data to be exported to ROM. In the mean time, you'll be able to work on whatever projects you had in mind, you just won't be able to write them to a ROM yet. Later releases will allow your project data to be saved as a ROM.

To the few people who actually still follow this project, what do you think of this?

I think it's a great idea!

You say "few people", but I'll bet there's more than you realize. They've probably just been waiting for something to get their hands on and have been silent otherwise. I'll bet once you get something tangible out in the wild for people to test out and play around with, they'll come out of hiding. Then, as they start posting screenshots of their hack ideas, it will generate interest among other Mana fans. I would suggest creating a resource forum (if you have a way to do that) for people to discuss their hacks, give feedback (and report bugs) on the editor, and just get some discussion brewing among Somedit users.

Yeah, that sounds like a great plan. That way you can at least get something out for now, and we could start working on some SOM projects finally! I myself can't wait to try out anything that has to do with this editor. TY Mop!

And there are a lot of people that are following your progress the last couple years, that I know of. So no worries there.

I'm French too (plein de fans de SOM dans ce pays, c'est fou!!) and I look forward to being able to test your stuff.

+1 for the idea of the dedicated forum, it would be easier to describe bugs & suggest new functions, I think. I'm sure you would gather a heck of a crowd with that program.

I've been thinking of ideas for names for a resource forum.

Since this is a tool to shape SOM into something new, I think it would be cool to use the Watts/Weapon Orb theme. Of course, if you've played Mana, you know that Watt's is the blacksmith that upgrades your weapons with the Mana Weapon Orbs found throughout the World of Mana.

So, maybe something like:
"Watts' Forge" or "Watts' Anvil"
Or maybe just "The Forge".

Of course, followed by the tagline "The Secret of Mana Hacking Resource" or something like that.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Great project, I know several people who would fall in love with this thing if it were ever released. In the case where you can't finish the project could it be released for others to finish?

I'm dying here in anxiety.
