I think I'm close to figuring out the source of my palette issues. There were a couple bits on the 8x8 tileset that I wasn't touching. Using one of them to control which half of the palette 8-color tiles use seems to work fairly well.
The Secret of Mana Editor has been an on-and-off side-project of mine since sometime in 2004. The current version is a buggy pre-release, the latest build of which you can find on the message board or dropbox. Hopefully this project will one day (soon) become an all-around write-your-own-SNES-game editor on the level of other lovely programs like PK Hack, Temporal Flux, and Lunar Magic.

How big of a game will we be able to make-can you expand the rom?
That's one of the things I really like about SOM - it's HIROM, but only 16 megabit, meaning I have 2 megabytes of free space to play with.
Looks lovely :)
Could you write up a list of what the editor will be capable of pls?
